CanisTrigger Publishing is proud to introduce our newest published author, Robert Fullarton
Robert Fullarton was born in Dublin and over the past few years he has been nurturing a talent for writing. 'My massive influence and love for literature derives from my favourite writer, Franz Kafka,' states Fullarton. 'Other influential authors have been Dostoyevsky, Bulgakov, Joyce, T.S. Eliot, Hemingway, C.S. Lewis, to name but a few.'
His first book is a collection of short stories entitled Our Lives as Fiction and this is how the author describes it:
'I wrote this collection of short stories in my early twenties, as a memorial to the suffering of the disenfranchised, alienated and suffering communities of the city. These stories are not meant to be paradigms in pessimism, but surrealistic depictions of a global city, not in measure, but in a spirit of grossness and illness against the spiritual emphasis of suffering in the material world. The first piece The History of the Worldwas written as a dystopian tour of the modern world, as a man inertly seeks redemption but cannot find it in a world filled with false hopes, false pleasures and plutocratic manipulation. Many of the stories are washed in satire and allegory and such a story. The second story A Dreamer’s Odysseywas written when I was just 20 and is meant to be a Christian pilgrimage or classic adventure in which a man seeks his inner child, a world of meaning, memento, to travel across the gulfs of time, space, mind and meaning unto the absolute. The Ant Colony, The Streets and The Runaway Clownare parabolic and literal commentaries on the urban crises in its hideous whole. Societal examinations and inner turbulence are meant to be eschewed, espoused and provided for the readers. A Day Outis a mixture of dream and auto-biographical content. Each story is meant to make the reader ponder, for no true understanding can be taken upon the shallow appearance of things.'
Robert Fullarton's work is profound, intense and captivating, often marked by a prominent awareness of social injustice. 'I like the quote from Crime and Punishment spoken by Raskolnikov to Sonia that goes like this: "I did not bow down to you, I bowed down to all the suffering of humanity,"' concludes the author whose next goal is to finish his first novel. In the meantime, sink your teeth into Our Lives as Fiction and enjoy the eclectic style and prolific imagination of this new Irish talent.

Book description: This collection of stories is meant
to symbolise a world city where all races and stereotypes are put to the
microscopic test for comedic and tragic effect. They are rich in satire, wry
humour and symbolism. One must think twice, through the beginning, the middle
and the end of each story, or else they stand to lose their meaning.
